I get it. Sadly, moments of anxiety, stress, and possibly, even overwhelm are enveloping the world. Consider, it’s all to common research shows. The reality is mindfulness can seem like just another to-do on a long list of to-dos that needs attention right now. This is a common misperception – that mindfulness is a to-do. Let’s pause and consider, mindfulness is a to-be, and today begins a new way to experience our practice. Let’s be mindful right now.
Mindfulness Practice right now
Just sit and slow down and notice. Everything. What do you see? How are sounds coming to you? Loud or soft? What smells enter the tips of the nostrils? How does the air feel on your skin? Is it hot or cold, humid or dry, peaceful or electrified? Does the breath to move freely or is it catching somewhere between your nose and abdomen? If it does, where is it catching? Breathe and experience mindfulness and be it right now.
Know you are in this present moment along with everything that is in this present moment. What does your body do when you just be? Does it tense and resist? Does it relax and allow? Where does your mind go? Do your thoughts flit from topic to topic? Do they fixate on one thought and turn it over and over? Does emotion arise? Which emotion? Can you name it? Is it an emotion from the present moment or a past experience? Are you reliving something you already survived?
